How to check your English pronunciation with AI
Shadowing with scores for every word and sound · LingoFlash
You can't easily hear your own pronunciation
Listening back to a shadowing recording, you might sense that something is off — but not which word, or which sound. And asking a teacher every time isn't realistic.
An AI score arrives the moment you finish a sentence and points to exactly what to fix.
What the AI score tells you
LingoFlash gives every sentence an overall score out of 100, broken down into:
Accuracy
Whether each sound is pronounced correctly.
Fluency
Whether you speak smoothly, without unnatural pauses or restarts.
Completeness
Whether you said every word. Skipped words are marked “Omitted”.
Rhythm
Whether stress and intonation sound natural.
Words are coloured green, yellow or red. Tap a red one to see the sound you missed (say, /θ/) and replay just that word from the original.
A routine that raises your score
- 1. Listen: hear the sentence carefully — which words are stressed, which sounds run together.
- 2. Copy it: recording stops when you finish and the score appears straight away.
- 3. Fix the red words: play that word from the original and say it again, focusing only on the sound that drifted.
- 4. Compare: play yourself next to the original and check the rhythm too.
Sounds learners lose points on most
th
think / this
Rest the tip of your tongue against your top teeth and push air through. It often turns into s, z, t, d or f.
r and l
right / light
For r the tongue touches nothing; for l the tip presses behind the top teeth.
v and w (and b)
very / wary / berry
v is top teeth on the bottom lip; w is rounded lips with no teeth; b closes both lips.
Final consonants and short vowels
good / ship vs sheep
Finish the last consonant without adding a vowel, and keep short vowels short — ship and sheep are different words.

Can it score any sentence?
LingoFlash scores you against the sentences of the video you're practising. Paste a YouTube link and every line in it can be scored.
Does it work with British English?
Scores use American pronunciation as the reference. You can still practise British videos; a few vowels may simply differ from the reference.
